Can you wear contact lenses if the power of the eye is less than your contact lenses before?

My power has been the same eye for the past 2 years. My left eye is -6.00 and my right eye is -5.25. I always wore contacts with this recipe. I am recently went to the doctor for new prescriptions to refill my contacts. When I arrived at my contacts, I realized my new contacts prescription is now -5.50 (left) and -5.00 (right). Does the doctor made a mistake, or is it safe to take but somewhat lower power of vision? Thank you!
