Imported Referee
Should the standard of respect shown to a Rugby referee be imported into football?

Mr Romford: I can not but agree with you, but it will not happen. too much money involved
Mango; I agree. I saw a referee assaulted by a parent after he had ref’d a Cub Scout 5 a side foorball match. i dispair of some parents

I think it should, but whether it would take off is another matter. Generally, footballers are pretty thick so basic notions such as respect can go out of the window, when compared to the fairly composed and philiosphical nature of more cognitively intelligent rugby players. It also doesn’t help when managers and senior players don’t set an example. Alex Ferguson and John Terry are always ranting away at refs, and Roy Keane pursues them all over the pitch with veins bulging in his head. Brian Clough and Frank Lampard have set a much better example.
